A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse with specialized graduate-level training in mental health and psychiatry. PMHNPs can:

• Diagnose mental health conditions
• Prescribe psychiatric medications
• Provide therapy and counseling
• Order lab tests and interpret results
• Develop comprehensive treatment plans

Emma Loftus holds dual board certifications as both a PMHNP-BC and FNP-BC, giving her expertise in both mental health and overall physical health.

Both can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medications. The main differences:

Psychiatrists attend medical school and complete a psychiatry residency (12+ years of training).

PMHNPs complete a master's or doctoral nursing program with psychiatric specialization (6-8 years of training).

Research shows PMHNPs provide equally effective care with often more time spent with patients and a holistic, person-centered approach.

CCTP stands for Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. This specialized certification requires advanced training in evidence-based trauma treatment methods beyond general psychiatric education. Emma's CCTP certification means she has specialized expertise in treating PTSD, complex trauma, and trauma-related conditions.

Yes! We're currently accepting new patients for both in-person appointments in Yakima and telehealth throughout Washington State. Evening and weekend appointments are available.
